Rascals Nursery, Cowdenbeath

The Nursery is based over two levels, having generously resourced playrooms for each age group of children.

Snowdrop Room The Snowdrop Room

This room is on the second floor and is for our youngest group of children - from six weeks to 18 months - 2 years. Our low child/staff ratio allows lots of time for individual attention and on enrolment you can discuss your baby's routine with their key worker. The resources in this area are sensory e.g. tactile, colourful, and noisy encouraging all areas of the child's development. Parents are requested to provide nappies, wipes, and pre-prepared formula together with baby jars/packed lunches. Cots are available for naps, and all bedding will be supplied, however if your child has a favourite blanket/comforter they are welcome to bring it along.
Daisy Room The Daisy Room

This room is on the second floor and is the main play area for our two to three year olds. There is a large selection of toys, books, construction and jigsaws to stimulate young minds. Role play is encouraged in the house area and dressing up clothes are also available. The children can also enjoy rhymes, songs, music and movement.
Poopy Room The Poppy Room

This is a room on the second floor, with choices of water and sand play, painting, gluing, and baking.
Rainbow Room The Rainbow Room

This is the main play area for our pre-school children - three to five years old. The room is divided into two sections. The front section is used for snacks, crispie cake making, writing, drawing, games and computer skills. Also sand & water play, playdough, chalks, arts & crafts. The back section of the room allows for construction, musical experiences and has a book corner. The home area has a selection of dressing up clothes available to stimulate imaginations.
The Sunshine Room

This room is directly across from the Rainbow Room on the ground floor, and is ideal as a quiet retreat for stories and table top games. This room can also be used 3pm-6pm for our After School Children.
The Garden

There are various garden areas around the nursery building. These include:
  • grassy areas to watch the birds feeding, to play, swings, climbing frame with slide, seats and a picnic table
  • areas for the children to plant vegetables and watch them grow
  • tarmac area which is ideal for wheeled toys and generally to run off excess energy
  • a wooden 'den' and a gazebo which both offer opportunities to shade in on sunny days
When good weather allows, indoor toys are also brought out into the garden.
